Previously On EUPHORIA:
Jules was falling in love with someone named ShyGuy118 whose name is Tyler but is actually our resident..perfectionist, Nate
Maddy tries to catch on to Nate due to trying to find out if he was cheating on her (spoiler alert: no holds barred, he is)
Mckay and Cassie’s relationship is although a bit of a give and take, what with him wanting to be serious with her and Cassie not wanting to go into the means of being too sexual, their relationship is stable for the most part
After helping Jules take professional slightly nude photos and then sometime later in the last episode just straight up kissing her, Rue runs off near the storage and garage areas that are near by her house and she finally calls Ali
We see a small boy looking out the window questioning his mother’s decision on a seven hour trip to see a psychiatrist. His mom reassures that at the end of the day, all she and the father want for their son. Question is on what kind of care are we talking here is the question. Now who is this small child? Voiceover Rue reveals that it is none other than her human based new drug/best friend Jules at 11 years old before transitioning into the rebellious young blood we know today. Jules’ story into the show begins on a road trip to see a psychiatrist. With Jules’ meeting with him, he actually turned out to be a very sweet human. She didn’t lie once and you’d think on pleasant terms that would be the end to the location. Well after the session, Jules was given a tour of the unit. In a way the unit was a second home for children to feel more pleasant toward themselves. She is introduced to the common area room where patients attend group sessions, watch movies, play games, and have art class. They have various activities in the common area which sound positively therapeutic. Nothing seems out of the ordinary “Dr. Kay!” I stand corrected; one of the patients begins to aggressively masturbate in front of the doctor and Jules. This causes a nurse named Allan to run in and tackle the guy to the ground. Dr. Kay shows Jules the patient rooms and then the quiet room. Where the aggressive masturbatory dude, whose name is Jesse is placed in there due to his inappropriate behavior. He adds 30 more minutes to his time by screaming at the doctor that he’ll rape her. Jules had enough of this strange tour and wanted to bounce back to her house. But voiceover Rue fills us in and says that in the end, Jules had blindly agreed to be admitted to a psychiatric hospital. After seeing her mom walk away from th other side of the door. Jules understandably loses it and she ends up harming an RA by scratching his face. She went from guilty, angry and defeat all within a shot of her hands being tightly secured with mittens that won’t allow her to use her hands properly. She was in her first group session and Dr. Kay asks Jules on why she thinks she’s in the facility. To put her descriptions properly, she basically had depression. She hated her body and every part of it. Not just in the way that teenage movies portrays that hate, Jules’ hate was a hit close to home type of hate. She hated her life due to her mind and physical form. Growing up, Jules developed a few coping mechanisms. If you think they were something like stress free drawing, learning an instrument or getting into the gaming community, as much as you wish you didn’t want to think her coping mechanisms were harmful, self harmful, they were. It got her straight into the psychiatric hospital. Allan hands Jules one of her meals with a side of ginger ale. He leaves the can thinking Jules just wanted to drink the rest of the soda left over. After he leaves she breaks the can and makes a makeshift knife. She calls Allan over and the camera pans to her blood dripping from her wrists. After he runs to her, the camera switches back to Jules’ room and there on her bed is the knife. This show tends to grow dark but not in the 13 reasons why kind of way because this situation is not exaggerated. There is probably a small child boy or girl, going through a similar pain and we won’t hear their stories until they are old enough to tell it and they make it to that point and tell it. Eventually Jules was mentally better and she was able to go home. However, as one member of the family heals, the other starts to break as her mom started to get worse due to smoking and using a lot of prescriptions. Her mom went away as a result of it. Her father was the complete opposite. He quit his job to be closer to home but that was okay because she had a better relationship with him. Fast forward to 13 years old and she started to transition into the young female we see on our screens. By 16 years old, in Rue’s words, “Jules had gotten a little slutty”. The guys she had been with have never been switched up. All of them were the same exact type.

long-term relationships
Then there are the curious guys who always repeatedly say that they are 100% straight. Making the first few minutes of their encounter with Jules a tad bit awkward if you ask me. Some guys that were with her were gentle and sweet. Other guys were just bizarre with her. The other few are in the category of Nate’s father; highly aggressive. We are then taken back to her hotel scene with him and she tried to hide her major discomfort. To take her mind off of it, Jules would imagine that she wasn’t really in the body she was in and her life wasn’t as chaotic as it was. She was just one of the main characters in a variety of books, movies or TV shows. In life’s most painful situations, it’s easier to think like that but for only a moment. But yet, we are placed back into the mind box mantra: our own bodies don’t even belong to us. They do but some of us just take a longer time in believing that. But the night she hooked up with Cal wasn’t all bad. That same night was when she met Rue and gained a best friend in the process. Jules had never been with someone, romantically speaking, prior to meeting Rue but she had the happiest thoughts about living the rest of this lifetime with her. Living in a typical rundown New York apartment and seeing other people. Yet when the day is all set and done, they would happily sleep in the same bed. She even said it to Rue once in typical conversation and regretted it a bit because the idea was weird. Yet sadly these thoughts went away as soon as Nate’s Tyler came into the picture. If only she knew the true identity of her online love.
After a quick shot of the title card, we are brought back to Rue. She seems completely chilled out while speaking to someone. She claims to currently not have anything to be passionate about. She doesn’t have that lead kind of mentality as most people these days in society. She just takes life as it is. People these days just have a way of masking the level of fucked up they have like Rue does. That feeling of being lost in this world but they just hide it a bit better. While Rue is within her thoughts, Ali, who she called at the end of the last episode snaps her back to reality. He makes it clear that he doesn’t directly care about Rue’s deep thoughts. But seeing as how everyone deeply connected to Rue has shown her the door for the moment, Ali was really the more clear option in terms of trying to just talk to someone. At this point we all need that type of person to speak to. When everyone that we love seems distant, there can be that one life line still there for us. Ali asks her as to why she really called him. We are then taken back to the heavy plot points of the previous episode. Rue takes some pills from Jules’ dad. She ends up kissing Jules after doing that, feeling completely embarrassed. The final heartbreaking lather is her banging on Fezco’s door in order to buy some drugs. Despite almost getting raped and killed on the side in the episode that occurred before hand. Ali reminds her that drug addicts don’t reach out to others unless there are no other options and in Rue’s case there really isn’t for her at the moment. Ali wants to know what is really going on in this young blood’s life. She thinks deeply about how she misread her friendship with Jules. Thinking that something more would happen with it. She explains that Jules has been the best thing that has occurred in her life in recent terms. Ali hears this and he gathers up the idea, a very valid one, that Jules is Rue’s new ‘drug’. Like I said in the last sentence very vaguely, that idea isn’t far off the table. I mean yes, Rue feels good with Jules but this is happening during the beginning of their friendship. Rue felt really good when she finally started taking drugs. Yet sometimes, good things can become really bad. When will that happen? We’ll just have to wait on it.
We then cut to Fezco and Ashtray. It’s the night of the carnival and they’re discretely selling their product through a pretzel truck. Honestly, that might just be the smartest way to do it. Let’s just hope for their sake, they don’t run into Rue. The camera pans to some of the others that are present at the carnival. Rue is looking after her little sister Gia and Lexi. Maddy is trying to locate Nate through all of the commotion. Jules and Kat are loudly mimicking my thoughts while on the ferris wheel. Sometimes I like them, other times I’d be happy if they didn’t exist but that’s my personal opinion. Nate is angrily trying to find Maddy while on the phone with her. He finds her and the first thing he says instead of saying she looked good, his initial response is comparing her to a hooker. Unsurprisingly, he is embarrassed by this because his parents were also there for the chili cook off that they were participating in. His parents don’t like her and he then hits the tacky nail with a hammer by saying to her to “go home, get changed, and come back looking like a person”. Rude much, Mr. DominantDaddy Jr.? Jules and Kat were both going to a gravitron ride until Jules leaves her after she spots Rue. Kat enters the ride and she ends up standing next to Ethan during the entire ride. Jules reunites with Rue after apparently not seeing each other for a few days. Gia sees this and drives up the assumption that Rue might be in love with Jules. I mean, it’s not far off the table. They end up not talking about the kiss. Gia decides to leave Rue and find some of her friends.
Cassie and Mckay head to Cal’s chili booth to grab some chili. Nate also sees Mckay and says hi too. He asks if Cassie and Mckay are in a relationship. He replies with the worse thing you could say when you are in a relationship. Mckay claims that him and Cassie are just chilling. Cal asks Mckay as to why he hasn’t seen him on the field as of late. Freshmen have to earn their dues. He doesn’t want that attitude swarming around Mckay. He tries to reassure him that it’s only the very first season. Cal goes on to say that Mckay can be greater than he thinks he is. A whole lot of promise and talent is within him. Nate tries to back up Mckay by voguing for him and repeating similarly what Mckay said earlier which is he’ll be alright moving forward. But Cal informs that he was just trying to help Mckay keep a girl like Cassie. This rightfully so bothers her and she responds by saying her and Mckay are not even in a relationship and she dislikes football. Cal takes a slight offense to this.
‘It’s not just football. It’s life. It’s about maintaining your focus. It’s about putting your all into everything you do. Why do you think I have the business I have? Why do you think I have the family I have? The success that I have? Why do you think this chili has been voted best chili in the county five years in a row?
“Cause you refuse to lose.”
It’s about who you want to become in the world. I’m just looking out for you’.
This coming from the same guy that will do anything and everything to get ahead in life. All the while tearing his family from within. Cassie walks away after hearing all of this and Mckay catches up to her. In the last episode, Mckay said that he loved Cassie but he just treated her like she was just the homie. He couldn’t stand up to Nate and say happily that him and Cassie are in a relationship. He just didn’t want Nate to trash it but Cassie states that it shouldn’t have mattered in the first place. He was afraid that Nate was going to publicly speak on the sexual things that Cassie has done. Mckay tells her in a dead serious tone that it’s not that big of a secret as to why he said what he said to Nate. This obviously bothers Cassie as she thought Mckay saw her for more than that. He walks off leaving the carnival early. We then see Maddy talking to Fezco asking to do some Molly. Discreetly he hands her a carnival ticket and says she is working at the pretzel stand. Maddy finds Cassie and decides to do molly with her to cheer her up. They head to Fezco and Ashtray’s pretzel stand and order 2 pretzels with a side of Molly. Cassie asks Maddy if she thinks Nate is cheating on her. She’s gone through his phone and she still can’t exactly say it. Lord only knows how ugly this will turn up. We see Kat and she is happily hanging out with Ethan. All smiles and with just warmth in her heart.
Then we cut to Jules and Rue. Jules spots Cal at his chili booth and she informs her that he was the guy she hooked up with on the night she met Rue. Miss Rue then informs the rather bothersome lather that Jules’ hookup was actually Nate’s dad. She still doesn’t believe that anything happened between the two, even though Jules swears by it. He owns half the town and there is just no way he would’ve done what he’s been doing for years. That is until she walks up to his booth and asked for some chili to prove it. She asks for the chili and you could just feel his nerves flaring up. We then see Nate who looks like he’s close to squaring up. Cal tries to, in a tensed manner, hand the chili to Jules and end up spilling her cup. This confirmed it for Rue that the two hooked up. What was even more sinking was that Cal and Rue caught each others eyes too. She ends up backing up a bit and walks away very quickly. Jules finally gets her chili and runs off. Nate’s brother asks Nate on who Jules was. All the while having a heavy focus on his father. She goes to the same school that he does and she is a junior. Hearing this obviously freezes his father’s blood. As she told him in the motel room that she was in her early twenties. Rue and Jules speed up through the crowd as they freak out over what had just occurred.
Maddy and Cassie finally indulge on the molly they bought and they go on their little trip around the carnival. They hit the ferris wheel and begin to discuss the deeper meaning of the universe as a whole. It is exactly how you think it would sound like. Gia is hanging with one of her friends and they head off to go hang with a couple of boys who might not even be their age. Kat is still hanging with Ethan and having the best time. Ethan asks her to grab slushes for them before they head to the ferris wheel. She starts to head back to him but then she sees him talking to another girl. This angers her, causing her to drop the slushes and walk away from his view. It turns out the girl that Ethan was talking to was his sister’s coworker. She just needed her shift covered. She’s supposed to meet her boyfriend’s family for the first time. She just only hopes that Ethan’s sister will answer her texts. Oh, if only Kat went up to them and interrupted the conversation a bit. She wouldn’t have highly misread it. Ethan sees that Kat disappeared and this disappoints him a bit.
Maddy and Cassie are in the hall of mirrors, admiring their reflections. Maddy has had ENOUGH of the whole Jacobs family and she wants payback. She expresses to Cassie that the way she dresses and acts, that’s who she is. Speaking of the chili cook-off, Nate’s family ends up winning it again. But the celebration is cut short by a slow clap from Maddy. She stands up to them much to the dismay of Nate. She ends up tipping over one of the pots and Nate pulls her away from the crowd. Much to the embarrassed looks of his family. Cassie decides to meet up with one of the boys from her school to go on a carousel ride.
After receiving a phone call from her mom, Rue starts to worry about her sister Gia. Seeing as how she wasn’t answering neither her mom’s call or Rue’s call. Rue starts to panic a bit but Jules reassures her that they’ll find her soon enough. Jules and Rue split up in order to cover more ground to find Gia.
Off to the side, Nate is dragging Maddy to a secluded area, still fuming over what she had done. He slams her body into a near by trailer and chokes her in the process. He is officially on an off permanent basis with Maddy. He doesn’t want to deal with her shit anymore. He lets her go and starts to walk off but Maddy just had one more question. We just don’t see her ask it. At the family booth, the mom cleans up the spilled chili while the other son expresses the fact that Maddy has a lot of issues. Cal decides that he has to use the bathroom.
Rue is still on the lookout hunt for Gia as their time is almost up on returning home. Cal really isn’t inching to use the bathroom but it’s anyone’s guess as to where he is heading. Jules continues on with the search to help find Gia. Kat sees one of the carnival workers taking a smoke break, she decides to join him. Cassie is on the carousel with one of the guys from school and she is free as a bird. Rue and Jules continue to separately look for Gia while it seems as if Cal is following Jules.
Kat figures out the identity of the carnival worker as a guy named Luke Kasten. An East Highland former student that Kat has heard about through the halls of her middle school. The rumor was that he had sex with every girl in his grade and that he had a really big dick. He then asks her how old she is and she gives him her real age.
Cassie is still on the carousel with one of the guys from her high school and after a few kisses with him, the molly starts to hit her sex drive. Maddy is talking to Nate and reveals that she went through his phone and saw his “suspicious” photos. Apparently those weren’t his dick pictures in his phone. He just doesn’t know how to explain the whole situation to Maddy. He begs her not to tell anyone even though she told Kat and Cassie beforehand. He apologizes to her and expresses how sorry he was. This obviously bothers her a tad bit. Nate’s father continues to follow Jules around as Rue might have potentially found Gia. Luke exposes himself to Kat in order to prove the old school rumors. Cassie starts heavily griding on the horse. Having that feeling like no one is watching her do this while she begins to climax. She ends up climaxing and she receives questionable, disgusted, one intrigued look on all of the onlookers that have been seeing her on the ride. From all of these expressions, she is just highly embarrassed by each of them. Kat is having sex with Luke in order to see how good he really is. Rue finds Gia in the parking lot hanging out with the twins. She is stoned out of her mind. Older siblings can be quite impressionable on their younger ones and this is just an example. Man how the tables have turned. Rue tells Gia repeatedly to stand up and start walking home with her. Both Roy and Troy go in on Rue for ‘ruining’ Gia’s night. One of the twins go way far as to consider that after Rue almost died after an overdose, she became less cool because she wasn’t doing drugs. This upsets Gia and she walks off with Rue.
Rue texts Jules to notify that she found her and they were heading home. Cal finally confronts Jules and begs her to not say a word to anyone else about their encounter at the motel. Despite already telling Rue, which he noticed to. He is expecting that Jules will take advantage of him and his power but she is not that kind of person. She promises that Rue and her won’t say a word about it. Just as long as he doesn’t speak on it either. Not everyone has the blackmail venom in their body and it’s a good thing it doesn’t exist in Jules. “Tyler” texts Jules and asks her if she wanted to meet in 30 minutes. We all know what her reply will be.
Maddy and Cassie meet up. The situation that occurred with Casie has hit her hard and Maddy hugs her to comfort her. Kat and Luke finish up and he asks her if she cummed; he did but she did not. This pleases her as she walks away smiling.
Gia and Rue are seen walking home. Gia worries that their mother will be waiting for them both on the couch as soon as they make it back to the house. Rue reassures Gia that she’ll be in bed. Gia fears that at some point she’ll have an interaction with their mom but then Rue instructs her to just head straight to her room and hide under her sheets. Rue will cover for Gia because that’s what older siblings do. They make it home and Rue’s excuse for Gia is that she is still ill from riding the gravitron a bunch of times. Rue’s lie works; her mom thanks her for looking out for Gia during the evening. They say I love you to each other and Rue heads straight to her room.
Maddy makes it home and walks straight to the bathroom. She turns the mirror light on and examines the marking Nate left around her neck. This causes her to silently cry in pain. Cassie makes it home while thinking about every moment that occurred during the evening. She is just heavily embarrassed. Three members of the Jacobs family return home after the long night. Cal runs up to his study and locks the door behind him. He goes into his drawer and realizes something for a moment. He might’ve finally figured out that Nate knows his secret.
Jules rides her bike to the lake that is near the carnival grounds in order to finally meet “Tyler”. She’s anxiously waiting with a smile on her face about finally meeting him. Before the encounter Rue texts Jules and tells her that she had fun with her during the carnival. “Tyler” and Jules finally come face to face and to her surprise and disgust, he’s Nate. Jules tries to walk away while Nate repeatedly claims that he is not trying to harm her in any sort of way and the first time they met was simply a bad introduction. That’s what all sleazy guys want you to think. Nate tries to convince Jules that she is the most amazing girl that he’s ever gotten to know in the length of a few weeks. Saying that he trusts her more than any other person on the planet. To no surprise at all, through tears of fear, Jules says to him that she doesn’t trust him. He flat out says that he doesn’t trust her either. He ends up taking a few steps closer to her while she takes a few steps back. Mind you, this is taking place at a lake so any outcome exists from this. He closes in on her face and begins to kiss her. You would think that maybe this might not turn out ugly but then after their done kissing, we hear Nate utter those familiar words and create that hand gesture. He tells Jules to open her mouth and he puts one of his fingers inside. This obviously disgusts her and she tells him to stop. What comes out of his mouth, is quite repulsive.
‘God, are you broken inside. And that’s precisely why I don’t trust you. Because you’re so broken you don’t even trust yourself. And that’s scary. Not just for you, but for me. And for my entire family.
*Phone buzzes*
I wouldn’t answer that. You’re gonna wanna hear this. Over the last three weeks, you have knowingly produced and distributed child pornography. Including obscene images that were taken on school property. I’ve compiled all these photos, along with an IP address, and an account that’s linked to your name. I don’t know if you’re familiar with child pornography laws in this state. But they apply to minors just as they apply to adults. “I sent them to you”. No. You sent them to an account of a person that doesn’t fucking exist. And I mean, anyone can anonymously report child pornography, right?
“Then I’d tell them everything”.
Okay. You could do that. But, umm, here’s what would definitely happen. You’d end up on a sex offenders list. It means no more college. It’s gonna be very fucking difficult to find a job. And everywhere you go, for the rest of your life, you’ll be harassed, and spat at, and treated like a fucking animal. You deserve better than that. ‘Cause I know you. You’re kind. You’re smart. You’re generous. You got a big heart. You deserve whatever the fuck it is in this world that you want. So keep your head down. Keep your mouth shut. Don’t try to ruin my life, and I won’t have to ruin yours.’
Honestly, if Jules ends up burning his house, I would be her getaway driver. Like she was willing to walk away in peace from the situation that occurred with her and Nate’s dad. She meant every word about not saying a word but for some reason, he wanted to amp it up. Your good looks are nothing but a disguise and sooner or later, people will catch up to that. Now as for Jules, her response is quite simple. Nate is exactly like his father and quite frankly that is disgusting in itself. He responds by pulling Jules by the back of the head and simply tells her to have a nice night as he walks off. Jules is stressed after all that has unfolded. Instead of biking home to sleep, she heads to Rue’s house and spends the night there. Jules vaguely tells Rue that the date didn’t go as well as she had hoped. He just didn’t look like his picture. Rue and Jules slip into bed and before falling asleep, they both stare at each other. Rue asks Jules if she is okay. She slightly moves her head back and forth in the form of a no and Rue kisses her forehead. The scene then starts to rotate the two of them. Showing the sweet moments they’ve shared together while both of them scrunch closer. From the carnival, to the school, to the night they first met,It all leads to them finally kissing each other. What will this mean for the two of them moving forward? That’s up to them to decide.
